La Iglesia San Francisco in Ranchos de Taos, New Mexico

Ranchos de Taos was photographed by Ned Scott in 1931.

Shortly after joining the Camera Club of New York, Ned Scott made his way to the American Southwest to study the forms of Ranchos Iglesia adjacent to Taos, New Mexico. It was 1931, a time of great uncertainty around the world. Many of the Camera Club members made this excursion at some point or another. Others who photographed this icon include Paul Strand and Ansel Adams. After returning to New York, Ned Scott created prints of his Ranchos images and discussed them with other members of the Club. He mounted several platinum prints, inscribed and signed the mounting boards. Later in 1935, Paul Strand wrote Ned Scott about one of the images, expressing his feelings about what constitutes a good photograph. He also praised Ned Scott and his photographic abilities.
