These photos of Ingrid Bergman were taken by Ned Scott for publicity purposes to support the movie "Spellbound" in 1945. All but one of these images were taken at Ned Scott own residence in La Canada, California. Scott's large bookcase formed the background for several images, and other props such as the ceramic horse which Bergman is holding were favorite items of the Scott family.
Ingrid Bergman, a Swedish actress, was born on August 29, 1915. She starred in many American and European films. She won a Tony Award, Academy Awards and Emmy Awards. According to the American Film Institute, she ranks fourth on the list of the greatest female stars of American cinema of all time. Her most popular roles were as Alicia Huberman in "Notorious" with Cary Grant and Ilsa Lund in "Casablanca" with Humphrey Bogart.
Ingrid was already a famous actress in Sweden even before she became a star in America. She first came to Los Angeles on May 6, 1939. Her first exposure in an American film was in the lead role in Intermezzo. She acted on Broadway, too. She made works in five different languages on television, on stage and in film.
Some of her famous works include Gaslight, Alfred Hitchcockís "Spellbound", "Joan of Arc", "For Whom the Bell Tolls", "The Bells of St. Maryís", Joanne of Lorraine, "Anastasia", "The Inn of the Sixth Happiness", "Under Capricorn", "Murder on the Orient Express", "Turn of the Screw", "Cactus Flower", "Autumn Sonata" and "A Woman Called Golda".
She starred in the Italian film Stromboli in 1950 which resulted in her scandalous affair with the filmís director, Roberto
Rossellini. After a hiatus in Europe until 1956, she made a came back to Hollywood with the film Anastasia. She won her an Academy Award for it. Ingrid has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Ingrid Bergman died in London in 1982 after an eight year bout with breast cancer. She was cremated and her ashes were scattered around in the sea in an island in Sweden.
She wrote her autobiography entitled Ingrid Bergman: My Story with Alan Burgess which covered her childhood, her Hollywood career, her affairs with Roberto Rossellini and Robert Capa, and other highlights. It is said she was encouraged by her children to write the book to tell her side of the story.
